Protecting Sight #82: There’s more to life than being happy. Four pillars of a meaningful life.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, short story or significant work.

Here’s today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Emily Esfahani Smith – There’s more to life than being happy. “Our culture is obsessed with happiness, but what if there’s a more fulfilling path? Happiness comes and goes, says writer Emily Esfahani Smith, but having meaning in life — serving something beyond yourself and developing the best within you — gives you something to hold onto. Learn more about the difference between being happy and having meaning as Smith offers four pillars of a meaningful life.”(ted.com)

I paused this Ted Talk to write down notes. I enjoyed Ms. Smith’s storytelling and her four pillars of meaning. Many life lessons within.

2. Cataract Surgery – Dr. Neto Rosatelli – Phaco Clip #17 – Phaco Chop for Beginners.

T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of orbit with contrast shows a fusiform heterogeneous peripherally enhancing extraconal mass within the superior orbit on the right (arrowhead), resulting in proptosis with downward displacement of the right globe.

3. Journal – Arora N, Garrity JA, Chen JJ. A Diver With Double VisionJAMA Ophthalmol. 2017;135(9):1001–1002. doi:10.1001/jamaophthalmol.2017.0660
