Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, short story or significant work.

1. Ted Talk – Gil Winch: How we can use the hiring process to bring out the best in people. “Traditional job interviews are stressful interrogations that can often exclude marginalized populations. Here’s how psychologist and entrepreneur Gil Winch says we can rethink hiring, training and onboarding to allow people to show their true potential.” (ted.com)
2. Uday Devgan MD – Cataract Quiz: how to rescue this case. “This patient has an intumescent white cataract and we know that poses a risk of capsular run-out due to the pressurized and fluid-filled capsular bag. The resident surgeon in this case does a good job by keeping the anterior chamber pressurized at a level higher than the capsular bag pressure. Then the needle decompression is done well and then further effort is made to get even more of the liquefied cortex out of the bag. It goes very well until hydro-dissection…” Great technique and save!

But he still says what he thinks about everything from “conscious leadership” to the behavioral roots of the obesity epidemic. He also argues for a style of capitalism and politics that at this moment seems like a fantasy. What does he know that we don’t?”
