Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, podcast, or significant work.
Here’s today’s list:
1. Ted Talk – Cameron Russell: Looks aren’t everything. Believe me, I’m a model. “Cameron Russell admits she won “a genetic lottery”: she’s tall, pretty and an underwear model. But don’t judge her by her looks. In this fearless talk, she takes a wry look at the industry that had her looking highly seductive at barely 16 years old.”
This is the 8th most popular Ted Talk (36 million+ views). Filled with insight and life lessons.
2. Cataract Surgery Richard Mackool MD – Episode 25: The Divide and Conquer Technique. Dr. Mackool writes, “In response to viewer requests, this video demonstrates the Divide and Conquer procedure using a curved ultrasonic needle (Balanced Tip). A useful method of eyelash isolation is also shown.” Excellent pearls.
3. Parab A, Sivakumar P. A Rare Case of Pulseless Retinopathy. JAMA Ophthalmol. 2020;138(11):e201404. doi:10.1001/jamaophthalmol.2020.1404
4. Book Chapter – Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson. Chapter 32 (France) & 33 (Conclusions). In the ‘Conclusions” chapter, Isaacson includes a section “Learning from Leonardo” which is filled with wonderful insights. Well worth reading this last section many times.
