Protecting Sight #269: Could we harness the power of a black hole? Trifocal IOLs, white cataracts, & ocular myasthenia gravis. Are You Indispensable?

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, podcast, or significant work.

Here is today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Fabio Pacucci: Could we harness the power of a black hole? “Imagine a distant future when humans reach beyond Earth, forge cities on planets thousands of light-years away, and maintain a galactic web of trade and transport. What would it take to make that leap? And where would we get enough energy to power that civilization? Fabio Pacucci explores the possibility of harnessing energy from a black hole to power a galactic civilization. [Directed by TOTEM Studio, narrated by Addison Anderson, music by Stephen LaRosa].” (ted.com)

Ted-Ed talks are filled with cutting edge concepts.

2. Uday Devgan MD – 1037: Trifocal IOL with white cataract. Great pearls & technique.

3. Andrew Lee MD – Ocular Myasthenia Gravis. Dr. Lee’s neuro-ophthalmology reviews are around 5 minutes and filled with high-yield pearls.

4. Seth Godin, Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? Introduction and “The New World of Work.” This is a remarkable book which I also read a few years ago. Picked up again after listening to Seth Godin’s appearance on The Knowledge Project podcast.
