Protecting Sight #212: How AI can help shatter barriers to equality. Anterior capsular rip & an orbital lesion. Ike Ahmed’s BANG technique!

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, podcast, or significant work.

Here is today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Jamila Gordon: How AI can help shatter barriers to equality. “Jamila Gordon believes in the power of human connection — and artificial intelligence — to help people who might otherwise be left behind. Telling the story of her own path from refugee to global tech executive, she shows how AI is helping refugees, migrants and those from disadvantaged backgrounds find jobs and develop the skills they need to work effectively and safely.” (ted.com)

Inspirational Ted Talk.

2A. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD – Recovering from an anterior capsule rip. Dr. Devgan writes, “There are many great pearls in this video and at the end, the result is excellent with a securely placed IOL in the capsular bag. We also include slow motion video so that you can see just how quickly the capsule ruptures.”

Excellent case & recovery!

2B. Ike Ahmed MD – Bent Angle Needle Goniotomy (BANG!). YouTube.

I’ll bet the BANG technique was coined by Ike Ahmed MD. (He also coined MIGS.)

Ike & his team lower the supply cost of a MIGs procedure from $1000 USD+ to less than 50 cents.
