Protecting Sight #245: Why are these 32 symbols found in ancient caves all over Europe? Challenging uveitic cataract, central scotoma, and retinal complications of anterior segment surgery. Achilles fights Aeneas.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, podcast, or significant work.

Here is today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Genevieve von Petzinger: Why are these 32 symbols found in ancient caves all over Europe? “Written language, the hallmark of human civilization, didn’t just suddenly appear one day. Thousands of years before the first fully developed writing systems, our ancestors scrawled geometric signs across the walls of the caves they sheltered in. Paleoanthropologist, rock art researcher and TED Senior Fellow Genevieve von Petzinger has studied and codified these ancient markings in caves across Europe. The uniformity of her findings suggest that graphic communication, and the ability to preserve and transmit messages beyond a single moment in time, may be much older than we think.”

Fascinating Ted Talk. I wonder what caves in India show.

2. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD – CataractCoach Review: Uveitis, Glaucoma, Cataract. Well done.

3A. Andrew Lee MD – Central Scotoma.

3B. Dr. Soosan Jacob. Retinal Complications of Anterior Segment SurgeryEuroTimes, the official News Journal of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. December 2020 / January 2021.

Excellent article by Dr. Jacob.

4. Iliad by Homer – Book 20. Listening to the LoyalBooks free podcast version. (Wikipedia | Spark Notes)
