Protecting Sight #69: Today’s posts on gender equity & #HeForShe. A shout-out to Women in Ophthalmology. #WIO2020

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, short story or significant work.

Here’s today’s list (with a shout-out to friends & colleagues attending the 2020 Women in Ophthalmology virtual meeting.):

1. Ted Talk – Sheryl Sandberg – Why we have too few women leaders – “Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg looks at why a smaller percentage of women than men reach the top of their professions — and offers 3 powerful pieces of advice to women aiming for the C-suite.” (ted.com)

2. Cataract Surgery – Ashley Brissette MD – Standard unedited cataract surgery. Great pearls.

3. Journal article – Gender-Specific Trends in Ophthalmologist Medicare Collections. Sumayya Ahmad, Pradeep Ramulu, Esen Akpek, Avnish Deobhakta, Janek Klawe. To assess the factors influencing the Medicare collections disparity between male and female ophthalmologists. American Journal of Ophthalmology. VOLUME 214, P32-39, JUNE 01, 2020.

This is well worth the read and especially for ophthalmology colleagues.

4. Book Chapter – Walden, and On The Duty Of Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau. LoyalBooks.com, SparkNotes, and Gutenberg. Chapter 5.

5. (Bonus) – Protect Your Online Reputation & Create A Physician Brand. I share my favorite pearls on creating a physician brand. The #WIO2019 meeting included a professional photo session, which happens to be my Pearl #1 (of 5 pearls)!

Congratulations to friends & colleagues attending the #WIO2020 meeting!
