This weekend, I had the privilege of attending the American Medical Association Council on Medical Service (CMS) retreat in Chicago—our first meeting since the AMA House of Delegates re-elected me to the Council in June. I remain deeply grateful for the trust and support of my colleagues in the House of Delegates.
It was a productive weekend focused on translating House of Delegates policy into thoughtful, actionable work. Among the important issues and upcoming reports we discussed were:
- Transparency with the Term “Emergency Department”
- The Impact of the Inflation Reduction Act on Physician Practices
- Non-Medical Switching of Prescription Drugs
- Determining Fair Market Value when Contracting with Physician Practices
- Improving Marketplace Affordability through Premium Tax Credits
- Study of Itinerant Surgeons Practicing at Ambulatory Surgical Centers or Office-Based Laboratories
These are complex issues with real implications for physicians, patients, and our health care system. I am grateful to my fellow CMS members and AMA staff for the preparation, spirited discussion, and collegiality that make this work possible.
Serving in the House of Delegates and on the Council on Medical Service remains one of the great privileges of my professional life. Thank you again to my colleagues in the House for the opportunity to continue this work on your behalf—and on behalf of the patients we serve.
