Protecting Sight #84: The language of being human.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, short story or significant work.

Here’s today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Poet Ali – The language of being human. “You speak far more languages than you realize, says Poet Ali. In a profound talk, he reveals how the idea of “language” goes far beyond a lexicon of words, communicating universal experiences like love, laughter and loneliness — and serving as a portal to cultures, feelings and thoughts that unite us all. ” (ted.com)

Poet Ali’s talk is mesmerizing, and the final poem worth watching again and again. I hope to search for ways to speak a common language with new & old friends.

2A. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD – Make 2 Paracentesis Incisions. One day, I will be brave enough to perform a capsulorhexis under a small iris. Uday makes it look easy.

2B. Cataract Surgery – Dr. Neto Rosatelli – Phaco Clip #18. Nice pearls.

3. Journal – EyeNet – David W. Parke II, MD, CEO, American Academy of Ophthalmology. An Open Letter to Congress: Medicare Payment Policies and a Tipping Point – American Academy of Ophthalmology.

4. Book Chapter – Walt Whitman – Leaves of Grass: Sparknotes, Wikipedia, and Gutenberg. Book 3 (Parts III).

5. September 5, 2015. The 5th year anniversary symbol is wood, which represents long-lasting strength, wisdom, and forgiveness.
