Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, short story or significant work.
Here’s today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Andy Puddicombe: All it takes is 10 mindful minutes. “When is the last time you did absolutely nothing for 10 whole minutes? Not texting, talking or even thinking? Mindfulness expert Andy Puddicombe describes the transformative power of doing just that: Refreshing your mind for 10 minutes a day, simply by being mindful and experiencing the present moment. (No need for incense or sitting in uncomfortable positions.)” (ted.com)
I’ve been practicing mindful meditation off and on for a few years (see my Instagram feed for old images). I enjoy Andy’s app “Headspace” (he’s the voice on Headspace’s intro course!).
I also love this free YouTube video from The Honest Guys here, which I have experienced dozens of times.

2. Uday Devgan MD – Cataract Quiz: What should you do? Dr. Devgan writes in part, “What are these dark spots seen in the red reflex as you are about to start cataract surgery? What do they mean? What should you do differently in this surgery?”

3. Journal – Harrie RP, Levin AM, Owen L. Recurrent Subconjunctival Hemorrhage in a Child With an Orbital Mass. JAMA Ophthalmol. Published online November 05, 2020. doi:10.1001/jamaophthalmol.2020.4087

4. Book Chapter – Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson. Chapter 18, “The Last Supper.” Excellent chapter on this most iconic painting. I hope to one day experience this painting in Milan.
