Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, podcast, or significant work.
Here is today’s list:
1. Ted Talk – Elizabeth Lev: The unheard story of the Sistine Chapel. “The Sistine Chapel is one of the most iconic buildings on earth — but there’s a lot you probably don’t know about it. In this tour-de-force talk, art historian Elizabeth Lev guides us across the famous building’s ceiling and Michelangelo’s vital depiction of traditional stories, showing how the painter reached beyond the religious iconography of the time to chart new artistic waters. Five hundred years after the artist painted it, says Lev, the Sistine Chapel forces us to look around as if it were a mirror and ask, ‘Who am I, and what role do I play in this great theater of life?'” (ted.com)
A wonderful Ted Talk. Worth watching now and before your next visit to the Sistine Chapel!
2. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD – 1046: fixing anterior capsule fibrosis.
Love innovative cataract surgery techniques.
3. Andrew Lee MD – Diffusion Weighted MRI Imaging (DWI).
Dr. Lee’s 450+ neuro-ophthalmology reviews are around 5 minutes each. Perfect for the busy clinician & trainee. I plan to watch one a day, from oldest to newest.
4. Seth Godin, Linchpin: Are You Indispensable? “Is it Possible to do Hard Work in a Cubicle” (I would have named this chapter after one of the subheadings, “The Gift of Emotional Labor”)
