Protecting Sight #298: The SixthSense interaction. Stop and chop & Charles Bonnet Syndrome. The future of bitcoin, ethereum, cancel culture, warfare and more.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, podcast, or significant work.

Here is today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Pattie Maes + Pranav Mistry: Meet the SixthSense interaction. “This demo — from Pattie Maes’ lab at MIT, spearheaded by Pranav Mistry — was the buzz of TED. It’s a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for profound interaction with our environment. Imagine “Minority Report” and then some.” (ted.com)

I love watching Ted Talks on future technologies. This 2009 Ted Talk is prescient of devices we see today. (11+ million views)

2A. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD – 1066: senior resident stop-and-chop. Nice technique.

2B. Cataract Surgery – Caroline Wilson MD and Thomas A. Oetting MS MD – Phaco rhexis and more – Nice technique.

3. Andrew Lee MD – Charles Bonnet Syndrome.

Dr. Lee’s 450+ neuro-ophthalmology reviews are around 5 minutes each. Perfect for the busy clinician & trainee. I plan to watch one a day, from oldest to newest.

4. Balaji Srinivasan on The Future of Bitcoin and Ethereum, How to Become Noncancelable, the Path to Personal Freedom and Wealth in a New World, the Changing Landscape of Warfare, and More (#506)

This is a 4-hour podcast episode! Well worth the time investment.
