#ProtectingSight #418: Your words may predict your future mental health. Capsulorhexis danger zones & non-organic vision loss. Updating our beliefs in light of new evidence.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. Here is today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Mariano Sigman: Your words may predict your future mental health. “Can the way you speak and write today predict your future mental state, even the onset of psychosis? In this fascinating talk, neuroscientist Mariano Sigman reflects on ancient Greece and the origins of introspection to investigate how our words hint at our inner lives and details a word-mapping algorithm that could predict the development of schizophrenia. ‘We may be seeing in the future a very different form of mental health,’ Sigman says, ‘based on objective, quantitative and automated analysis of the words we write, of the words we say.'” (ted.com description)

Back-to-back fascinating talks.

2. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD – 1186: Capsulorhexis danger zones. Love this pearl from Ahmed Sallam, MD, PhD.

3. Andrew Lee MD – Non organic vision loss.

Dr. Lee’s neuro-ophthalmology reviews are perfect for lifelong learning.

4. Gautam Baid – The Joys of Compounding: The Passionate Pursuit of Lifelong Learning, Revised and Updated (Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing Series). Chapter 27, “Updating Our Beliefs in Light of New Evidence.”

I continue to enjoy books on value investing, lifelong learning, mental models, and more. Excellent chapters with amazing quotations.
