Protecting Sight #81: The investment logic for sustainability. A phaco flip, Yamane technique & pupilloplasty, ciliary body cyst, and Leaves of Grass.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. My daily goal is to watch one Ted Talk and one cataract surgery. I also plan to read one journal article and read/listen to a book chapter, short story or significant work.

Here’s today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Chris McKnett – The investment logic for sustainability. “Sustainability is pretty clearly one of the world’s most important goals; but what groups can really make environmental progress in leaps and bounds? Chris McKnett makes the case that it’s large institutional investors. He shows how strong financial data isn’t enough, and reveals why investors need to look at a company’s environmental, social and governance structures, too.”(ted.com)

Enjoyed this Ted Talk. It would be interesting to see how large pension funds and other institutional investors have changed since this 2013 Ted Talk.

2A. Cataract Surgery – Thomas Oetting, MD – Yamane Technique and Pupiloplasty (Facebook). Nice technique.

2B. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD – complete cataract case: phaco flip. Nice technique.

A, Low-powered slitlamp examination of the right eye showing irregularity of the posterior light reflection inferotemporally, indicating iris elevation. B, High-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy of the inferotemporal quadrant of the right eye showing a circumscribed ciliary lesion with overlying closure of the iridocorneal angle.

3. Journal – Dikopf MS, Aref AA. Circumscribed Iris Elevation in a Middle-Aged Woman. JAMA Ophthalmol. 2017;135(9):999–1000. doi:10.1001/jamaophthalmol.2017.0479
