#ProtectingSight #375: 3 ways to build a happy marriage. White cataracts, double rhexis, & ERG. Jack Bogle’s investing pearls to select long-term winners. The architecture of music.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. Here is today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – George Blair-West: 3 ways to build a happy marriage and avoid divorce. “Choosing to marry and share your life with someone is one of the most important decisions you can make in life. But with divorce rates approaching fifty percent in some parts of the world, it’s clear we could use some help picking a partner. In an actionable, eye-opening talk, psychiatrist George Blair-West shares three keys to preventing divorce — and spotting potential problems while you’re still dating.” (ted.com)

Excellent talk. Filled with pearls on building a happy marriage.

2. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD & Guest Surgeon Dr. Sundar Thangavel – 1143: why such a tiny capsulorhexis? Excellent technique.

3. Andrew Lee MD – ERG.

Dr. Lee’s neuro-ophthalmology reviews are perfect for lifelong learning.

4. John C. Bogle – The Little Book of Common Sense Investing: The Only Way to Guarantee Your Fair Share of Stock Market Returns (Little Books, Big Profits). Chapter 8.

I picked up this 2007 edition for $1 at the Cherry Hill Public Library book sale a few years ago. One of the best investments in the world. Timeless pearls by Jack Bogle, the founder of Vanguard.

I’m also a huge fan of bogleheads.org, an investing advice forum. You can post questions anonymously and responses are superb.

5. Episode 9: The Architecture of Music with Maestro Alexander Shelley — Shane Parrish writes, “In this incredible episode, I’m joined by Maestro Alexander Shelley. We dive deep into the architecture of music, the necessity of arts, and what makes Beethoven’s 5th Symphony so popular.”

Listening to Beethoven’s 5th Symphony on Pandora as I complete today’s blog. Love this episode. Music is poetry.
