#ProtectingSight #376: The value of coaching to achieve greatness. Intra-capsular surgery & VEP. Jack Bogle on yesterday’s winners & tomorrow’s losers.

Welcome to my daily learning journal. Here is today’s list:

1. Ted Talk – Atul Gawande: Want to get great at something? Get a coach. “How do we improve in the face of complexity? Atul Gawande has studied this question with a surgeon’s precision. He shares what he’s found to be the key: having a good coach to provide a more accurate picture of our reality, to instill positive habits of thinking, and to break our actions down and then help us build them back up again. “It’s not how good you are now; it’s how good you’re going to be that really matters,” Gawande says.” (ted.com)

An extraordinary talk. I love Gawande’s insights on coaching & lifelong learning.

2. Cataract Surgery – Uday Devgan MD & Guest Surgeon Dr. Shah Nawaz 1144: white cataract intra-capsular surgery. Well managed and rare case.

3. Andrew Lee MD – Visual Evoked Potential (VEP).

Dr. Lee’s neuro-ophthalmology reviews are perfect for lifelong learning.

4. John C. Bogle – The Little Book of Common Sense Investing: The Only Way to Guarantee Your Fair Share of Stock Market Returns (Little Books, Big Profits). Chapter 9.

I picked up this 2007 edition for $1 at the Cherry Hill Public Library book sale a few years ago. One of the best investments in the world. Timeless pearls by Jack Bogle, the founder of Vanguard.

I’m also a huge fan of bogleheads.org, an investing advice forum. You can post questions anonymously and responses are superb.
